Rock me like a hurricane

Not even Hurricane Danny could stop two of Maine's most beloved musical exports from bringing down the house at the first annual Machigonne Music Festival this past Saturday night.

After wrapping up their own set (which included Pop Trash!), the Rustic Overtones stayed on stage to act as Ray Lamontagne's backing band. The line-up featured a big gorgeous string section, sweetening the sound of my favorite Ray songs like Jolene and Hold You In My Arms.

Ray was even more handsome than I remembered from seeing him in Boston when he was touring in support of Trouble and I loved that Rustic's Jon Roods played an upright bass. Most songs were down tempo and wicked romantic, a fact that did not go unnoticed by the scores of couples PDA-ing all over the place (vom).

The show was a perfect end-of-summer treat, especially considering I was with some very dear friends. Thanks for a great night girls!

I <3 Ronson

I want F21's faux leather shorts (above) so I can bite Charlotte Ronson's style (below, middle).

Sweet Lorraine

"Girls love him," says my boyfriend of Nat King Cole. It's true!

With good reason:

You're Looking at Me

The above image is of my favorite celebrity couple, Diana Krall and Elvis Costello, by photographer Mark Seliger. I saw a framed print at Artists and Fleas earlier this summer and have been kicking myself for not purchasing it ever since.

Mark Seliger also co-directed two of my favorite music videos, Hole's video for Violet, and Lenny Kravitz's steamy I Belong to You video. I love his style and will be on the look out for his work in Vanity Fair and Rolling Stone.

Here are two other gorgeous potraits from Seliger's collection at the Young Gallery.

Sunday Night Special

Oh, Trader Joe's. You make it so easy for us to eat well.

Lobster ravioli, jalapeno sausages, pink sauce, sweet basil.

Yum!

The September Issue

My September Vogue arrived on Friday and I have spent every spare moment this weekend devouring it. I loved Charlize's cover story and their profile of wild-man conductor Gustavo Dudamel, but it's Steven Meisel's Bebop/40s inspired spread that is making me swoon.

Saturday Night Live

I can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday night than getting hot and sweaty dancing to Sister Sparrow and the Dirty Birds. Their summer-long residency at The Rockwood Music Hall comes to an end this Saturday, August 29th with a set starting at 11:00 pm. The room fills up fast, so plan to arrive early if you want prime booty shaking real estate.

I love all of the adorable vintage get-ups their lead singer, Arleigh Kincheloe, wears on stage. Hard to believe what a big sound comes out of such a teeny tiny person!
